The commission members discussed the recent training sessions for various liturgical ministries. We have a number of lectors who have not yet completed the training and a make-up session was scheduled for Sunday March 15 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. We will also schedule make-up sessions for greeters and ushers after Sunday and Saturday Masses, but this schedule was not set at this time. The training for Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist for the Homebound has been completed. Next year we will consider having a mini-retreat for all liturgical ministers, with training provided only for those new to the ministries.
It was noted that the Lenten faith sharing groups have been going very well, with the various groups reporting lively discussions regarding issues such as marriage and annulments.
Since Lynne Eck resigned from the commission, it was determined that Lisa Burdett will be asked if she would be willing to join the group. She had expressed an interest in it on her stewardship form last fall. Other parishioners had also expressed an interest in this commission.
It was noted that other scheduled groups or choir conflict with the meeting times for the commission, so it was determined that we will switch meetings to the first Thursdays of the month.
The next meeting of the Adult Religious Formation Commission will be on May 7, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sisters’ house.

Diane will be doing the Sacred Heart Beat “So Glad You Asked” column for March on the days of Lent. After March, it was decided that this column will be changed to reflect the Church’s teachings on social justice. The column will be called “What You Do for the Least”. This change will be announced in the Sacred Heart Beat. Sister Irene will write these columns, but will submit them for review to Fr. Warren and other members of the ARF Commission. Sign-up sheets will be in the foyer of the church, but leaders may also recruit potential group members. A study guide for the book, along with prayers and discussion questions was found on-line and will be used for the groups.
We still have an opening for one member for this commission, and there was discussion about individuals who might be willing to serve on it. A couple of names were suggested, and one of these individuals will be asked to join us.

The commission members decided to postpone purchasing of materials from Lighthouse Catholic Media at the present time.
There was discussion about the recent training of Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist (EMEs). We received very positive comments about the sessions, despite the three-hour time period that was scheduled for the training. Thirty-four of the current fifty-five EMEs attended one of the sessions, which means that twenty-one have not yet attended. A make-up session was scheduled for Saturday October 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Diane will call those EMEs who have not yet attended a training session. A commissioning for EMEs will be held at Masses on the weekend of October 19th and 20th.
The commission members also reviewed the recent lector’s training sessions. The sessions went very well and we again received positive comments about them. Thirteen lectors attended the training, while fifteen of our current twenty-eight did not attend. Diane will talk to a couple (the Carlson’s) from Burdett about doing so; Sister Rebecca will speak to LuAnn Pankratz about this; and Regis will visit with Michael and Marissa Klemens about hosting a group. There was discussion about how to involve other parishioners who might want to be in such a group, but are not specifically invited by one of the hosts. No specific decision was made about this, however. We also have magnets for the Year of Faith which we will hand out to parishioners after the Masses on the weekend of January 5th and 6th. Regis and Lynne will hand out the magnets after the Saturday Mass, while Diane and Sister Rebecca will do so after Mass on Sunday.

There will not be a Holy Hour/Adoration in December, and the one in January will focus on church unity.

The minutes of the meeting of June 12, 2012 were reviewed and approved.
We have not heard anything from Elaine about her membership on the team. There was discussion about several individuals who might be considered as possible team members. These people will be contacted to determine if they might be interested and available as future team members.
The team discussed themes for upcoming Eucharistic adorations:
September 19th: prayer for students, teachers, and parents
October 17th: gratitude for the past 100 years of Sacred Heart Parish and initiating the Year of Faith
November 20th: this will be on a Tuesday, as the regular Wednesday adoration for that month would be the evening before Thanksgiving. The theme for this adoration is thanksgiving for the many blessings we have received. We will ask parishioners to write blessings on pieces of paper at the masses on the weekend of November 3rd and 4th. We will then give thanks for these blessings at the adoration.
There was discussion about the “So Glad You Asked” articles published recently in the Sacred Heart Beat. Sister Irene wrote an article for the October issue, which the team reviewed. Regis will write one on what parishioners can do to assist with RCIA. There was some discussion about future topics.
The Year of Faith begins in October of this year. As part of celebrating this, we will use a faith prayer during masses beginning that month. In addition, during January, we will give parishioners magnets with information about increasing our faith. The team also discussed asking some couples in the parish to invite friends to their home on several occasions to discuss faith issues. These discussions could occur during Lent or on a quarterly basis through the year.
The team discussed the recent “Fortnight for Freedom”. Our parish complied with the request of the Bishop that we do something for this, as we prayed a rosary on a daily basis for religious freedom. A couple of parishioners offered their thanks for these daily rosaries.
The team was asked to address invitations for our parish centennial celebration, which was done after the meeting.
The next meeting of the Adult Religious Formation Team will be on November 13, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sisters’ house.
